Shadow Warrior

Game Review - by Dan Piparo
Shadow Warrior is a heart stopping, thriller sensation, more bullet ridden than any game in history. In Shadow Warrior, you play as Lo Wang, the most feared and respected ninja to walk the mortal plane. He was the assassin of choice for the Japanese Yazuka and other eastern underworld families that had too much money and too many enemies. Now he must face a world filled with strange beasts. Where are they coming from?

Storyline:
Armed with 10,000 bullets, 1,000 Shurikens, one sword and an assortment of deadly body parts, Lo Wang (the Shadow Warrior) must embrace his destiny. A destiny teeming with hideous foes far beyond the Shadow Warrior's wildest expectations. Countless crime bosses, dirty politicians, corrupt police chiefs, subverted CEOs, and hired mercenaries died at the lightening quick and unseen hands of the Shadow Warrior. He is known as the best. The most lethal. Beware of the Shadow Warrior.

Graphics:
Shadow Warrior is built upon the successful Build engine, that brought you Duke Nukem 3D. This technology adds an excredible environment with realistic feeling. The true room over room situations with running beams, steep ledges, and 3-D bridges, add to the realism of the environment. Shadow Warrior has awesome fog effects, colored lighting, and transparent water that you can see into and out of, as well as swim in. Though Shadow Warrior seems a bit sluggish, the rest of the game more than makes up for it. The weapons are cooler, the blood effects are more gruesome, and the monsters are tougher & smarter!

Features:
Your starting weapons in the game are shuriken (throwing stars) and a katana (sword), while the enemy is armed with uzi machine guns (how unfair). The cool thing about the katana is that when you slice your opponent, he actually does get sliced in half, and blood spurts all over the place. The katana against uzi is a little bit of an unfair battle, so find an uzi as soon as possible. During your travels you will find rocket launchers, spiked grenades, etc. You must pick these up and use them to your advantage; don't waste your rare ammo.

Sound FX:
The FX sound for Shadow Warrior is awesome, the slicing sound that sword makes is so realistic that it sounds that is actually occurring. Lo Wang does a lot talking throughout the game, and most things that he says are very humorous and easy to understand. The monster's voices are hard to understand, but who really cares when you are blowing them away.

Gameplay:
Practically every cool feature you saw in Duke Nukem 3D is in Shadow Warrior, plus more! Like now you can drive vehicles which have weapons from machine guns to lasers, or rockets. Unique vehicles like boats, tanks, personnel carriers, forklifts, bulldozers, and more. Finally, visit realistic places and settings in the game like an airport where a plane has crashed, construction sites and more, not just dark, dreary, faceless dungeons. Shadow Warrior's intense interaction with your environment gives the ability to blow up nearly every object, or interact with it in some way.
