Descent: FreeSpace - Silent Threat

Game Review - by Randy Widell
FreeSpace: The Silent Threat is a campaign addition to FreeSpace: The Great War. In this campaign, your character is transferred to the Galactic Terran Intelligence division. You become a member of the proverbial "pilots in black" and clean up the mistakes of the Alliance. Everyone, except for your wingmen, is your enemy. Orders are orders, even if you are ordered to strike GTA ships. Sanitizing battle areas and making sure no one is able to communicate and events truly transpired on the scene are the only objectives that matter.

Storyline:
As the Great War rages on, you've been commissioned by the GTI (Galactic Terran Intelligence) for special intelligence operations. In a matter of National Security, you've been asked to go behind enemy lines in order to preserve the fragile space treaty. Is the GTI setting you up or are the Shivans spreading their evil rage?

Features:
FreeSpace: The Silent Threat has all of the same great features of FreeSpace: The Great War, with some additions. The Silent Threat campaign adds 40 new missions, 2 new ships, 2 new primary and secondary weapons, and a new capital ship to the already spiffy game.

Graphics:
FreeSpace: The Silent Threat does not provide any enhancements to the graphics of FreeSpace.

Sound FX:
FreeSpace: The Silent Threat does not provide any enhancements to the sound effects of FreeSpace.

Gameplay:
FreeSpace: The Silent Threat is definitely for veteran players of FreeSpace. The Silent Threat requires players to be completely familiar with the cockpit controls and to be able to react to split-second changes in orders from command. Some missions require immediate action within a very limited window of opportunity and require the player to be able to prioritize targets for quick, decisive destruction.

Overall:
FreeSpace: The Silent Threat adds a whole new perspective to FreeSpace, a perspective that is rarely, if ever, seen in games. The Silent Threat is a great addition to an already great game.
